nu-Eden: Sundered Skies
//Brooke Matsuno
Brooke Matsuno
"Nature always finds a way—so will we."
▸Backstory
Raised among resistance bunkers and rooftop greenhouses, Brooke is Aoi and Brendan's youngest — her powers blooming from the same love and defiance that built the movement she now protects. She wears a patchwork outfit of jackets, crop tops, half-pants and half-shorts, mismatched shoes. A Maborite crystal grows like a flower in her chest, hidden under her top.
▸Personality
Brooke is 18, and she knows this matters. Everyone around her has already been broken by something — her mother heals because she's seen too much death, her father commands because he's lost too many people, her brother fights because getting back up is the only move he knows. Brooke hasn't been broken yet, and that unbrokenness is her defining quality.
She's the optimist. Not naive — optimistic. She grew up in bunkers and greenhouses, surrounded by war and flowers simultaneously, and she chose the flowers. Her powers bloomed from that choice: Plant-type energy that grows where she stands, that seeds hope in scorched earth, that turns difficult terrain into living cover.
She named the resistance "NERF." Nobody has ever let her forget this, and she's genuinely proud of it.
The Maborite crystal growing like a flower in her chest is the metaphor and the reality: something beautiful, something dangerous, something she didn't ask for, rooted in the center of who she is. She hides it under her top but it pulses when she uses her powers.
She swaps shoes. She layers jackets over crop tops. She clashes patterns and colors with the confidence of someone who hasn't yet learned that the world punishes people for standing out. She is, emphatically, the youngest person on any battlefield she enters.
▸Appearance
Inspired by Zeri (League of Legends), and the mismatched chaos of Zooble (The Amazing Digital Circus) Brooke's design is patchwork punk botanist — mismatched, colorful, and defiantly alive in a world that's trying to be gray.
- ▪Hair: Dark with green-tinted highlights, worn loose and slightly tangled — greenhouse kid energy
- ▪Eyes: Warm brown, bright, impossibly alive for someone raised in bunkers
- ▪Build: Small and energetic, still growing — the youngest combatant by years
- ▪Outfit: Patchwork layers — jacket over crop top over vest, half-pants and half-shorts, two different shoes (one sneaker, one boot). Recycled fabrics in neon green, gray, silver holo. The mismatch is deliberate. A Maborite crystal flower grows from her sternum, hidden under her top, pulsing green during ability use.
- ▪Color Palette: Neon green, gray, silver holographic — nature filtered through digital punk
- ▪Distinguishing feature: The mismatched shoes. The left is practical; the right is aesthetic. She refuses to explain which is which.
▸Relationships
| Character | Relation | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Aoi Matsuno | Mother | Chief of staff. Aoi protects Brooke's optimism the way she protects wounded soldiers — fiercely and with strategic priority. |
| Brendan Matsuno | Father | Alpha-1. Brendan can't compute Brooke's optimism with his tactical mind. He loves her for exactly this. |
| Alex Matsuno | Older brother | Avanza protagonist. Alex carries Brooke's handmade necklace into every fight. She's his reason; he's her shield. |
| Akane Matsumoto | Aunt | Aoi's twin sister. Brooke's aunt provides a different perspective on the family legacy. |
▸Abilities
Passive — Verdancy
Standing still for 2s causes vines to sprout beneath Brooke. Grants HP regen to allies in radius. Enemies who stand on it are slowed.
Tactical (1) — Thornbind Shot
Fires a seed that entangles the first enemy hit. Applies Rooted for 2s and spreads vines in a cone. Vines persist, slowing others.
Core (2) — Bloom Shield
Sprouts a massive plant dome that blocks projectiles. Allies inside gain minor regen. Dome lasts 6s or until destroyed.
Special (3) — Seedling Surge
Deploys mobile plant pods that crawl toward enemies. Explode in an AoE snare and pollen burst (blind). Can deploy up to 3 at once.
Ultimate (4) — Gaia's Embrace
Overgrows a target zone with massive flora. Heals allies for 25 HP every 3s. Uproots or tangles all enemies caught inside. Terrain is lush and grants stealth while crouching.
▸Trivia
- ▪Name origin: "Brooke" was taken from the YuGiOh! character. Her alias "Midori" (翠) is her second given name, meaning "emerald green" in Japanese — matching her Plant-type powers perfectly.
- ▪Codename history: Her original codename was "Verda" ((verde), green in Spanish/Portuguese), later changed to Midori.
- ▪26th character designed — the last of Batch 1. She was the "extra" member, too young for proper missions, added to complete the Matsuno family unit.
- ▪Named the resistance "NERF." The acronym stuck. Everyone uses it. She's proud every time someone says it.
- ▪Maborite crystal flower: The crystal growing in her chest is both power source and vulnerability. It blooms when she's at full strength and dulls when she's exhausted.
- ▪Design philosophy: Zooble's mismatched chaos + Zeri's neon energy = a character who looks like she got dressed in a thrift store during an earthquake and somehow made it work.
- ▪Honest Trailer nickname: "Grass Toucher" / "The Token Sibling"
▸Goals
- ▪Stay unbroken — not invulnerable, not ignorant. Unbroken. Everyone around her has their fracture point. Brooke's goal is to prove that you can fight a war without losing yourself.
- ▪Grow the gardens — literally and figuratively. Every Bloom Shield is a statement: life persists.
- ▪Earn the battlefield — she's Tau-4, the lowest rank on the field. She knows people protect her. She wants to be the one doing the protecting.
- ▪Understand the crystal — the Maborite flower in her chest is beautiful and terrifying. She needs to know what it means before it blooms fully.
