//Giselle Beckett
Giselle Beckett
"Nature's most beautiful things are usually the most toxic."
▸Backstory
An ex-Syntera chem-botanist who turned against the conglomerate after discovering they were engineering compliance pathogens disguised as agricultural aid. Giselle's expertise in chemical biology now serves the resistance — her poison/fire hybrid abilities create toxic fire zones that deny terrain and corrode enemy defences.
As Retronyx's Commander, she provides strategic oversight while maintaining lethal zone control that shapes every engagement.
▸Personality
Giselle commands with the quiet authority of someone who has already seen the worst thing a corporation can do. She doesn't raise her voice. She doesn't need to. When Giselle speaks, the room catalyses — people either fall in line or get out of the reaction path.
At 42, she is the oldest active field operative in Retronyx and one of the most experienced in all of nERF. She treats her younger teammates with a measured warmth that occasionally surprises them — Giselle remembers being young and angry once, and she's past pretending rage alone solves anything. Strategy does. Patience does. Precisely applied toxicity does.
Her betrayal of Syntera wasn't impulsive — she spent three years documenting their compliance pathogen programme before extracting herself. That kind of discipline defines her. She is methodical, devastatingly calm under pressure, and does not forgive easily. Or at all.
▸Appearance
Inspired by Alter and Catalyst (Apex Legends), Poison Ivy (DC Comics), and Recon (Marathon). Giselle's design is controlled lethality — elegant, poised, and visibly dangerous.
- ▪Hair: Dark auburn, usually pulled back in a practical low twist; loose strands framing her face
- ▪Eyes: Sharp green with faint bioluminescent flecks — a side effect of prolonged maborite-botanical exposure
- ▪Build: Tall and lean, carries herself like a researcher who learned to fight
- ▪Outfit: Modified lab coat over tactical fieldwear — toxin-resistant polymer weave, spore canisters at the hip, gloves with integrated chemical dispensers
- ▪Color Palette: Deep greens, ember oranges, toxic purples — like a poisonous flower
- ▪Distinguishing feature: A faint chemical burn scar across her collarbone from her last day at Syntera. She doesn't hide it.
▸Relationships
| Character | Relation | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Hiroyuki Maekawa | Partner / Co-officer | He calls her "Gigi." She calls him "Hiro." They've worked together for years — their synergy is seamless. |
| Tristan Fourier | Subordinate | She channels his rage into useful directions. He respects her enough to listen. |
| Fabian bin Omar | Subordinate | The steady one. Giselle relies on Fabian's groundedness. |
| Renata Chiara Velasco | Subordinate | Renata is loud where Giselle is quiet. They complement each other perfectly in the field. |
| Syntera (former) | Former employer | Three years of quiet documentation before she burned every bridge. Syntera wants her dead. |
▸Abilities
Passive — Corrosive Bloom
Giselle's abilities leave behind toxic residue. Enemies standing in residue take poison damage over time and have their healing reduced.
Tactical (1) — Toxin Bomb
Launches a canister that explodes into a poisonous gas cloud. Enemies inside take damage over time and suffer blurred vision.
Core (2) — Ignition Catalyst
Ignites any active poison zones, converting them into fire zones that deal burst damage. Enemies transitioning from poison to fire zones are staggered.
Special (3) — Spore Wall
Creates a living wall of toxic plant matter. The wall blocks movement, releases spores that damage nearby enemies, and regenerates health over time.
Ultimate (4) — Chemical Garden
Giselle creates a massive zone of intertwined poison and fire. The zone pulses between states — toxic when green, burning when red. Enemies caught in the transitions take heavy damage and are rooted.
▸Trivia
- ▪Name origin: Named after Eri Uchinaga (stage name Giselle) from K-pop group aespa. Surname "Beckett" from Amir Beckett (Warframe 1999); previously Becker, and before that, Bayer.
- ▪Oldest field operative in Retronyx at 42. She and Hiroyuki are the veteran officers guiding a team of twenty-somethings — a deliberate generational split.
- ▪"Firestar" was coined after a mission where her Ignition Catalyst chain-reaction set an entire Syntera facility alight. She considers the nickname "reductive."
- ▪Handle: @gigibeck — she maintains an absurdly normal social media presence for someone on a corporate kill list.
- ▪Chem-botanist background means she knows exactly which plants can kill you, cure you, and report your location to corporate surveillance. Sometimes all three.
▸Goals
- ▪Dismantle Syntera's pathogen programme — the compliance pathogens she documented are still in circulation. Every mission is a step toward proving what they did.
- ▪Protect the younger operatives — Tristan, Fabian, and Renata didn't sign up for this war. Giselle did. That difference matters to her.
- ▪Stay ahead of Syntera's hunters — they know what she took when she left. The documentation is leverage. She intends to use it.
- ▪Prove that control beats chaos — in a world of berserkers and sonic booms, Giselle fights with precision. She believes that's how wars are actually won.
