Karina Moriuchi
"Alright, time to crash the system!"
▸Backstory
A former indie game dev whose mind fractured after surviving a corrupted maborite-altered VR incident, Karina now lives inside the glitch — rewriting reality one logic error at a time. Her design is based on Mori Calliope / Demondice: a glitched voxel manipulator with a modular, logic-driven arsenal. She is Kizuna Moriuchi's sister. She swears the most out of everyone in nERF, far more than Conrad.
▸Personality
Karina is chaos with a commit history. She talks in slang, swears more than anyone in nERF (far more than Conrad, which is saying something), crashes headfirst through every social situation the way she crashes through firewalls — loudly, profanely, and somehow effectively.
Under the glitched-out exterior, she's sharper than she lets on. Her former life as an indie game developer gave her architectural thinking — she understands systems, exploits, edge cases. The maborite VR incident shattered her mind into voxel logic, but she reassembled herself using the pieces. The result is someone who thinks in boolean operations: every situation is AND, OR, XOR, or IMPLY.
She's fiercely loyal to her sister Kizuna Moriuchi and protective of her team in a way she obscures with profanity. When she's genuinely scared, the swearing stops — and that silence is more alarming than any glitch blast.
She has a cat named Bit. The cat is also chaotic.
▸Appearance
Inspired by Mori Calliope and Zentreya. Karina's design is digital punk — glitched aesthetics, voxel fragmentation, and the visible chaos of a system mid-crash.
- ▪Hair: Dual-tone — pink fading to white, styled asymmetrically with pixelated tips that flicker like corrupted textures
- ▪Eyes: Magenta, with a digital artifact shimmer — square glitch-pixels occasionally flash across her irises
- ▪Build: Athletic and compact, built for rapid teleportation and physical improvisation
- ▪Outfit: Modular voxel-panel armor that reconfigures based on logic mode — AND mode sharpens edges, XOR mode introduces random color inversions, NAND mode dulls everything to grayscale. Logic-gate diagrams etched into shoulder plates. Fingerless gloves with embedded holographic displays.
- ▪Color Palette: Hot pink, white, black, with glitch-artifacts in cyan and magenta
- ▪Distinguishing feature: The air around Karina occasionally pixelates — small voxel distortions appear and dissolve, as if reality has rendering errors in her proximity
▸Relationships
| Character | Relation | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Kizuna Moriuchi | Sister | Spektra. They share a father (Michio) and complementary chaos. Kizuna's VTuber energy mirrors Karina's glitch energy. |
| Michio Moriuchi | Father | Codename [Shinobi]. Tech R&D lead. Karina inherited his systems thinking and his inability to explain things simply. |
| Ilya Asimov | Teammate | She respects the dragon. He tolerates the glitch. Their combined fire + tech attacks are visually incomprehensible. |
| Julia Choi | Teammate | Strained. Julia's precision and Karina's chaos are opposing philosophies. They're learning to make XOR work. |
| Lyndsey Park | Commander | Lyndsey keeps the team running despite Karina's entropy. Karina respects this more than she admits. |
| Malcolm Ellis | Strategist | Malcolm's analytical calm is the logical complement to Karina's glitch logic. IMPLY mode was inspired by watching him calculate. |
▸Abilities
Passive — Render Stack
Karina gains Render Fragments with each ability cast (max 4). At 4 stacks, her next non-Tactical ability spawns a glitched duplicate that mimics the effect after a short delay. Using any inverted logic ability purges all stacks to trigger a voxel distortion blast (small AoE damage + enemy UI glitch).
Tactical (1) — Bitshift
Select a logic mode that determines the behavior of Core, Special, and Ultimate abilities. Press for AND (precision), OR (multi-target), XOR (random glitch), IMPLY (reactive). Hold for NAND (suppress), NOR (isolate), XNOR (stabilize/reflect), NIMPLY (reverse/undo).
Core (2) — Hardpoint
Deploys a voxel construct that changes based on active logic mode. AND: Precision turret. OR: Area denial pulse. XOR: Rotating utility node. IMPLY: Copies last ability's effect. Inverted modes create jammer fields, null zones, reflective nodes, or fail-safe blasts.
Special (3) — Noclip
Karina teleports and leaves a voxel ghost. AND: Explosive dash. OR: Slowing pixel trail. XOR: Mirror clone mimics next action. IMPLY: Teleport to previous ability location. Inverted modes create dazes, fake crash logs, stable shields, or 3s position rewind.
Ultimate (4) — Crashdump
Destabilizes the battlefield based on logic mode. AND: Lockdown cube traps 1 target. OR: Terrain dissolves into glitch flood. XOR: Random debuffs and UI scramble. IMPLY: Enemy input misfire. Inverted modes deny all actions, create hard vacuum, rewind enemies, or trigger total rollback.
▸Trivia
- ▪Name origin: "Karina" is taken from Aespa's Karina (Yoo Ji-min), the K-pop idol known for blending virtual and real-world personas — a direct parallel to Karina's voxel-fractured existence. "Moriuchi" comes from Mori Calliope (VTuber) and Takahiro Moriuchi (Taka) of One Ok Rock.
- ▪Quaternion naming: Karina is k in the IJK quaternion system (Ilya = i, Julia = j, Karina = k). The three encode the imaginary components of mathematical rotation — Tesserae's name literally means "tiles," and quaternions tile 4D space.
- ▪Logic-gate ability system: Bitshift's eight modes (AND/OR/XOR/IMPLY + their inversions NAND/NOR/XNOR/NIMPLY) form a complete boolean logic system. Every ability in her kit is a truth table.
- ▪Swearing record: Karina holds the unofficial nERF record for most profanity per mission. When she stops swearing, something is genuinely wrong.
- ▪Bit: Her cat is named after the smallest unit of data. The cat is also unpredictable and occasionally breaks things. Like owner, like pet.
- ▪VR incident: The maborite-corrupted VR event that fractured her mind is the origin of her voxel abilities — she didn't gain powers, she was recompiled from the crash data.
▸Goals
- ▪Stay compiled — the VR fracture is ongoing. Every logic mode is a patch on a system that could crash permanently. She fights to stay coherent.
- ▪Protect Kizuna — her sister is across the battlefield on Spektra, and Karina will voxel-blast through anything between them.
- ▪Master the inverted gates — NAND, NOR, XNOR, NIMPLY are harder to control and more dangerous. She suspects NIMPLY is the key to something bigger.
- ▪Find the source code — the VR incident wasn't random. Someone wrote that corruption. She wants to find them and return the favor.
