nu-Eden: Sundered Skies
//Debra Aviles
Debra Aviles
"Rip it up. Root it down."
▸Backstory
Latin cyberpunk through and through — braided cables like bandages, gauntlets pulsing with heat, graffiti-coded UI. Debra is a melee disruptor who builds Overclock charge through chaining hits and environmental destruction.
▸Personality
Debra doesn't hack from behind a screen. She hacks through the screen — fist-first, gauntlets blazing, graffiti tags detonating behind her. She is a hacktivist who decided that digital resistance wasn't enough and brought her conviction into the physical world with her.
She is loud, confrontational, and absolutely fearless. Where Ezra Asimov disassembles systems with surgical precision, Debra roots them out with kinetic force. Her anger is not unfocused — it's architectural. She knows exactly which pillars to pull to bring a corrupt structure down, and she doesn't flinch when the rubble falls.
Off the field, she is warm in a rough-edged way — the kind of person who'll cook for the entire team and then threaten anyone who doesn't eat. Her relationship with her mother Ximena grounds her; her friendship with Ezra is built on shared resistance and mutual respect.
▸Appearance
Inspired by Vi (Arcane), Sombra (Overwatch), and Faith Connors (Mirror's Edge). Debra's design is street-level cyberpunk rebellion — functional, customised, and covered in personal signifiers.
- ▪Hair: Dark, braided with cable-weave and heat-conductive threading that glows during Overclock
- ▪Eyes: Warm brown, sharp and direct — she makes eye contact like a challenge
- ▪Build: Muscular and compact, built for close-quarters brawling
- ▪Outfit: Armoured street gear — modified tank top over impact-resistant weave, cable-braided arm wraps leading into heavy gauntlets with Overclock capacitors, cargo pants with spray-can holsters and tool loops
- ▪Color Palette: Hot reds, electric oranges, graffiti greens, chrome — like a street mural come to life
- ▪Distinguishing feature: Graffiti tag motifs on her gauntlets that shift and pulse with her Overclock charge level
▸Relationships
| Character | Relation | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Ezra Asimov | Teammate | Kinship of resistance. His code and her fists serve the same cause. |
| Madeline Ellis | Teammate | Debra is kinetic where Madeline is perceptual. They balance each other. |
| Iain Lewin | Commander | She respects his endurance. He respects her fury. |
| Winona Tenenbaum | Strategist | Fire and fists — their combined aggression is terrifying. |
| Ximena Aviles | Mother | Codename Nyx. Former Draconis scientist, now nERF epidemiologist. Debra inherited her defiance. |
▸Abilities
Passive — Circuit Breaker
Builds Charge through melee hits, knockdowns, and environmental damage. At 100%, enters Overclock Mode — gaining melee speed, lifesteal, and bonus damage to hacked targets. Overclocked melee attacks leave Graffiti Tags that debuff enemies.
Tactical (1) — Rewind
Lunges forward then snaps back, leaving a Digital Afterimage. Applies knockback and Data Fracture on hit. Overclocked: afterimage detonates for AoE cyber-burn.
Core (2) — Reroot
Roots into the terrain, becoming immovable with increased damage resistance. Nearby enemies suffer mobility interference. Recasting releases a directional pulse.
Special (3) — Reboot
Cleanses debuffs, restores Overclock meter, and grants damage bonuses. Recasting explodes all active graffiti tags for heavy cyber impact damage.
Ultimate (4) — Kill-9
A catastrophic kill cascade — targeted slam that triggers a 27m AoE killwave applying nine successive debuffs: neural lock, cast blackout, trigger suppression, HUD crash, DoT, shield strip, debuff freeze, killmark, and kernel panic.
▸Trivia
- ▪Name origin: References the Biblical prophetess Deborah. "Radix" is Latin for "root" — both in the botanical sense and the Unix superuser sense. Her ability theme is the intersection of these meanings.
- ▪"Kill-9" is a Unix command (
kill -9) that force-terminates a process. The nine debuffs are a direct mapping — each one disables a different "process" in the enemy's combat system. - ▪"Re-" prefix on all her non-Ultimate abilities (Rewind, Reroot, Reboot) reflects her hacktivist philosophy: she doesn't build new systems, she forcibly restarts broken ones.
- ▪Mother Ximena (codename Nyx) was a Draconis scientist before defecting to nERF as an epidemiologist. The apple didn't fall far — both mother and daughter turned institutional knowledge against the institution.
- ▪Design inspirations span three games and one theme: Vi's gauntlets, Sombra's hacking, Faith's parkour momentum, all unified by Debra's street-level cyberpunk aesthetic.
▸Goals
- ▪Root out corruption — corporate, systemic, structural. Debra's hacktivism has a physical expression now, and she intends to use it.
- ▪Overclock beyond limits — Circuit Breaker has a 100% cap. Debra wants to know what happens at 200%.
- ▪Protect her mother's work — Ximena's epidemiological research at nERF is vital. Debra makes sure no one touches it.
- ▪Tag the city — every mission leaves a mark. Debra's Graffiti Tags are combat tools, but they're also declarations. She wants nu-Eden to know who was here.
