nu-Eden: Sundered Skies
//Iain Lewin
Iain Lewin
"Faith in chaos. Hope in hell."
▸Backstory
A veteran enforcer who outlasted three collapse events. Iain wears grit like armour and faith like a shield — his oath is the last thing standing when structures fall. As Metanoia's Commander, he is the immovable frontline that gives the rest of the team space to work their esoteric abilities.
▸Personality
Iain is the wall. Not metaphorically — he is the actual, physical reason that Metanoia's more fragile operatives survive long enough to use their abilities. He takes hits so others don't. He holds ground so others can advance. This is not self-sacrifice; it's engineering.
At 34, he's older than the team's core operatives and carries himself with the steady authority of someone who has already lived through the worst days. Three collapse events. Each one took something — friends, infrastructure, certainty. What they didn't take was his commitment.
He leads Metanoia with quiet conviction and a dry wit that surfaces at the worst possible moments. He does not inspire through speeches. He inspires by being the last person standing, every single time, and then extending a hand to whoever needs pulling up.
His faith is not religious — it's structural. He believes the fight matters. He believes the people beside him matter. That's enough.
▸Appearance
Influenced by Tantacrul (Martin Keary) — Iain's design is rugged durability with Celtic undertones. He is inspired by
- ▪Hair: Dark, cropped military-short with grey at the temples — earned, not dyed
- ▪Eyes: Pale blue-grey, steady and assessing
- ▪Build: Broad and heavy, built like a siege engine — the kind of person who fills a doorway
- ▪Outfit: Reinforced plated tactical armour over a worn combat jacket. Celtic knotwork etched into his shoulder plates. Heavy boots, mag-locked shield generators on his forearms.
- ▪Color Palette: Steel grey, deep navy, weathered bronze — a standing fortress
- ▪Distinguishing feature: A lattice of old scars across his knuckles and forearms. Each one has a story he'll tell if asked. He won't volunteer.
▸Relationships
| Character | Relation | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Madeline Ellis | Subordinate | The illusionist needs a foundation. Iain provides one. Mutual trust. |
| Ezra Asimov | Subordinate | Iain sees the trauma under the code. He gives Ezra space without making it obvious. |
| Debra Aviles | Subordinate | Respects her fury. Channels it when necessary. |
| Winona Tenenbaum | Co-officer | Winona strategises; Iain executes. They disagree professionally and trust each other absolutely. |
▸Abilities
Passive — Battle Sense
Gains dodge chance per nearby enemy in line of sight (up to 25%). Successful dodges grant a brief armour spike.
Tactical (1) — Redline Rally
Charges forward, knocking down the first enemy hit. Allies in his path gain movement speed and damage resistance.
Core (2) — Cover Intercept
Deploys a directional shield dome that blocks projectiles and AoEs from one side. Iain can fire through it; enemies cannot. Recasting flips the dome 180°.
Special (3) — Fallback Beacon
Tosses a beacon that recalls all allies within range after a brief delay, granting invulnerability during the pull.
Ultimate (4) — Gaelic Fortress
Becomes a walking bastion — immune to CC, can't be crit. Projects a mobile aura of regen and damage reduction for allies. Can taunt enemies, forcing them to target him.
▸Trivia
- ▪Name origin: "Iain" is the Scottish Gaelic form of "John," meaning "God is gracious." The MacLeod clan connection (from earlier drafts) reflects his Highland heritage. Previous surname "Keary" came from Martin Keary (Tantacrul); the current surname "Lewin" comes from Matthew Lewin, keyboardist of Magdalena Bay.
- ▪"Axios" means "worthy" in Greek — the liturgical acclamation spoken during ordination. Iain's codename is a declaration: he has been tested and found sufficient.
- ▪Tantacrul influence: His voice actor is Martin Keary (Tantacrul), the musician and YouTuber known for his analysis of music notation software. The casting is deliberate — Iain's precise, analytical nature matches Keary's presentation style.
- ▪"Gaelic Fortress" is both an ability name and a character description. When Iain plants his feet, the battle geometry changes around him.
- ▪Three collapse events survived. He doesn't talk about the second one.
▸Goals
- ▪Hold the line — simple in concept, endless in execution. Every mission, every fight, every collapse event that comes next. Iain holds.
- ▪Keep Metanoia alive — not just physically. The team's esoteric abilities take a psychological toll. Iain carries the weight they can't.
- ▪Outlast the system — nu-Eden's structures keep falling. Iain keeps standing. Eventually, something permanent will be built on the ground he holds.
- ▪Honour the oath — he swore to protect. The specifics of the oath have shifted over 34 years. The commitment hasn't.
