nu-Eden: Sundered Skies
//Society & Culture
▸The Hyper-Meritocracy
nu-Eden operates under a hyper-meritocratic system so aggressive, it makes traditional corporate hierarchies look chill. Every citizen's worth is quantified, tracked, and publicly visible. Your merit score determines:
- ▪What you can eat (cheaper food for low-merit, premium nutrition for high-merit)
- ▪Where you can live (sector assignment, apartment size, building class)
- ▪Access to transportation, entertainment, and healthcare
- ▪Your job prospects and career trajectory
- ▪Whether you can fall in love (low-merit individuals face severe dating discrimination)
- ▪What happens when you die (premium funeral services vs. mass cremation)
Higher merit = access to luxury; lower merit = restricted access to basics. The system is designed so that every decision, every day, is a calculation of merit cost vs. benefit. Life itself becomes a game.
▸Credisys: Gamified Currency & Social Credit
nu-Eden's sole legal currency is Merits (₥), a digital-only system tied directly to social credit. It's not just money—it's identity, status, and judgment all compressed into a number.
How Merits Are Earned
Only officially sanctioned labor generates merit. You cannot create independent wealth; you cannot barter; you cannot trade off-network. Avenues for earning merit include:
- ▪Corporate employment (most reliable, most soul-crushing)
- ▪Approved gig work (running errands for strangers, arbitrated by Credisys AI)
- ▪Social contributions (volunteering, community service—heavily audited)
- ▪Content creation (streaming, art, music—must pass corporate approval)
- ▪Snitching (reporting "violations" to authorities yields small merit bonuses—a system designed to break trust)
How Merits Are Lost
Expectedly, punishments are exponential:
- ▪Minor violations: Talking back to authority, missing work, complaining online → -5 to -50 merit
- ▪Moderate violations: Being late to work consistently, failing to meet quotas, "suspicious" group assembly → -100 to -500 merit
- ▪Major violations: Theft, violence, resistance activity, defamation → -1000+ merit (can bankrupt you)
- ▪Severe violations: Suspected nERF affiliation, data tampering, corporate espionage → -100k+ merit (permanent exile or execution)
The system is designed so that you're always one bad day away from destitution.
The Debt Trap
Merits can go negative. If your score drops below -1000 merit, you:enter debt status—you still have to work, but every transaction is taxed at 50% until you climb back to neutral. A citizen can spend an entire lifetime in negative merit and never escape.
This creates an underclass of the "permanently indebted" who are economically enslaved to the system.

| -XI | Invalidated | ₥ = 0 | NULL |
Higher merit scores grant access to luxury goods, better living conditions, and social privileges, while lower scores result in restricted access, surveillance, and ostracism. Life in nu-Eden is literally a game where players must constantly perform to "level up" or risk falling into destitution.
▸Core Technologies
Three interconnected technologies enforce this system:
Reflexio
Unskippable, personalized content everywhere — from billboards to implants — manipulating attention and behavior. It creates an attention economy where corporations control perceptions, desires, and even moods in real-time.
Neumora
Nanite-based "vaccines" that regulate consciousness and productivity. During work hours, citizens are "optimized" for performance; during off-hours, they're shut down to prevent "wasteful" activities. This enforces hustle culture at a biological level.
Credisys
The gamified merit system itself, where all transactions, social interactions, and life events are scored. It's both currency and social ranking, with exponential penalties for "bad" behavior.
Together, these create a unified dystopia of control: psychological manipulation, physiological enforcement, and social stratification.
