nu-Eden: Sundered Skies
//Dakota Yau
Dakota Yau
"Run the line. Break the line. Become the line."
▸Backstory
A former Triad runner with a rebuilt body. Dakota — known as Dax — once lived in the criminal underworld of nu-Eden, running courier jobs between gang territories. A botched glitchcore reactor job left her body shattered, and she was rebuilt with maborite-enhanced cybernetics.
Despite her berserker fighting style, Dakota serves as Lumicon's Strategist. She maps the battlefield through movement itself — understanding terrain, sightlines, and enemy positioning through her unique Orbline surface-running mechanic. Where others see chaos, Dax sees pathways.
▸Personality
Dakota is kinetic intelligence. She thinks with her body — not because she can't think with her mind, but because her mind works faster when she's moving. She reads a battlefield the way a runner reads a city: not through maps, but through momentum, friction, and the gap between intention and impact.
She is blunt, impatient, and allergic to planning that doesn't involve doing. Conrad's elaborate temporal calculations make her twitch. She'd rather run the scenario than model it. This makes her a paradoxically effective strategist — she stress-tests plans by running them with her body.
Her past in the The Triad gives her an edge no amount of nERF training can replicate: she knows how criminals think, how gangs move, and where the cracks in any system hide. She left that life, but it didn't leave her.
▸Appearance
Inspired by Chai, Peppermint and Korsica (Hi-Fi Rush), Juliette from (Omega Strikers), Gum (Jet Set Radio), and Vandal from (Marathon). Dakota's design is cyberpunk berserker — rebuilt body, visible augmentation, unapologetic aggression.
- ▪Hair: Short, asymmetric, with electric-blue streaks — functional, not decorative
- ▪Eyes: Augmented with tactical HUD overlay; glow during Orbline mode
- ▪Build: Compact and muscular, rebuilt with visible maborite-enhanced cybernetics
- ▪Outfit: Armored sports bra and compression leggings with modular plating; reinforced running shoes with magnetic soles for surface adhesion
- ▪Accessories: Wrist-mounted tactical display, magnetic anchor points on limbs
- ▪Color Palette: Electric blues, chrome, neon white — speed and technology
- ▪Silhouette: Low, athletic, poised to sprint — every line suggests forward motion
▸Relationships
| Character | Relation | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Conrad | Teammate | Conrad calls her "Kota." She tolerates his planning because he tolerates her improvisation. |
| Lydia | Teammate | She calls Lydia "Lydster." They share pragmatism. |
| Yumiko | Teammate | Yumiko calls her "'Miko." Dakota calls Yumiko "Blitch." They share the need for speed. |
| Clement | Commander | They coordinate Lumicon's tactical doctrine. His anchoring complements her surface-running. |
▸Abilities
Passive — Orbline
Dakota can run along any surface — walls, ceilings, inverted geometry — with personal gravity rotation. Builds kinetic charge increasing movement speed and melee damage. Mid-air activates Orbline Mode: Hold Jump for rapid flight-jumps, Ctrl for divekick, Shift for dash, E/Q to invert gravity. No fall damage.
Tactical (1) — Skyrush
Forward-launching aerial kick that locks onto surface or target. Near wall: latch and run. At enemy: knock upward and chain into Orbline. Brief invincibility window. Generates kinetic charge on hit.
Core (2) — Momentum Crash
Velocity-based melee finisher. Ground: dash punch. Wall: horizontal crash. Air: divebomb. Ceiling: axe kick plus shockwaves if enemies are near geometry. Damage scales with current kinetic charge.
Special (3) — Vector Shift
Quick-dash to up to 3 surfaces or enemies. Final dash auto-inverts gravity if comboed. Enables chaining between Orbline, Skyrush, or Crash. The faster she moves, the more options open.
Ultimate (4) — Redline
Dakota enters maximum overdrive — a blur of electric fury. For the duration, she can freely run on any surface, her attacks are uninterruptible, and each hit builds towards a massive final discharge that damages all enemies tagged during the ability.
▸Trivia
- ▪Name origin: "Dakota" references Dakota MRT station in Singapore. "Yau" (邱) is a common Cantonese surname.
- ▪"Dax" is her street name from her Triad days. She kept it because "Dakota" felt like someone else's name.
- ▪Orbline is not an ability — it is how she exists. The surface-running isn't augmented. It's the way her rebuilt body naturally interfaces with maborite-infused architecture.
- ▪Handle: @dakotayau — the one thing about her that's straightforward.
- ▪"Blitch" — Yumiko's nickname for her — is allegedly a portmanteau of "blur" and something else. Nobody has confirmed the second word.
- ▪Designed with Marathon Runner shells from the game Marathon — specifically the Glitch shell, now Vandal class.
▸Goals
- ▪Outrun the past — Dakota's Triad history is a debt she can never fully pay. She runs forward because looking back means stopping.
- ▪Map every surface in nu-Eden — she understands the city through motion. Every wall, ceiling, and inverted corridor is a pathway she hasn't explored yet.
- ▪Prove that chaos can be strategy — her berserker approach works, and she will prove it to every commander who doubts her.
- ▪Keep moving — stopping means thinking. Thinking means remembering. Dakota prefers not to remember.
