//Lydia Lau
Lydia Lau
"I used to perform for millions. Now I fight for them."
▸Backstory
A former pop idol whose career ended in a catastrophic maborite event during a live broadcast. The explosion killed hundreds and left Lydia permanently altered — her body now channels atomic energy that she can barely contain. Haunted by survivor's guilt and public disgrace, she joined nERF seeking redemption through combat.
Her fighting style is a fusion of explosive power and performance flair — every punch a crescendo, every dodge a dance move. She is Lumicon's frontline combatant and Conrad's emotional anchor.
▸Personality
Lydia is controlled, cynical, and precise. Beneath the coolness is a woman who once lived for applause and now flinches at crowds. She channels her survivor's guilt into mechanical discipline — every movement calculated, every strike intentional, nothing wasted. She does not perform for an audience anymore. She performs to survive.
Her cynicism is earned, not affected. She saw what unchecked power does — it killed her fans, destroyed her career, and rewrote her body at the atomic level. She distrusts anyone who embraces power without questioning it, which puts her at odds with Yumiko's chaos and sometimes even Conrad's risk-taking.
Despite all of this, Lydia cares deeply. She is the one who pulls Conrad back from the edge when his temporal fixation spirals. She is the one who remembers everyone's names, even when no one asks her to.
▸Appearance
Inspired by Valah (RKGK), Gwen Tennyson (Ben 10: Alien Force), Magik (X-Men), and Shoka Sakurane (NEO: TWEWY). Lydia's design reflects contained power — elegant lines hiding atomic volatility.
- ▪Hair: Hime cut with blunt bangs; dark, sleek, and perfectly maintained
- ▪Eyes: Sharp, calculating; subtle atomic glow under duress
- ▪Build: Tall and athletic, poised like a dancer
- ▪Outfit: Tactical vest over a crop top, flared skirt, headphones, and platform boots. Patterns reflect 靈 (spirit/soul)
- ▪Color Palette: Deep purples, atomic greens, midnight blacks — the glow of something barely contained
- ▪Silhouette: Tall, vertical, deliberate — every line communicates control
▸Relationships
| Character | Relation | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Conrad McGuire-Sun | Teammate, anchor | Lumicon's emotional core. She calls him "Conman" — half affection, half exasperation. |
| Yumiko Saito | Teammate | Calls Yumiko "Crackhead." Their dynamic is controlled precision vs. unbridled chaos. |
| Clement Tran | Commander | Respects his discipline. Sees a kindred spirit in his emotional suppression. |
| Dakota Yau | Strategist | Dakota calls her "Lydster." They share a pragmatic bond. |
| Kizuna Moriuchi | Rival | Calls Kizuna "Tinhead." Sees through Spektra's efficiency to the cost beneath. |
| Lincoln Lau | Father | Strategic logistics coordinator for nERF. Lydia's relationship with him is strained after her career collapse. |
▸Abilities
Passive — Critical Mass
Each hit charges Atomic Meter. At 100%, Lydia's next melee attack detonates in a small-radius atomic burst — bonus damage plus briefly weakened enemy armor. Charge decays slowly if not maintained.
Tactical (1) — Redline
Lunges forward with atomic acceleration, piercing damage in a line. Hitting enemies restores Atomic Meter and resets melee combo chain. At max charge, can pass through enemies entirely.
Core (2) — Atomic Whiplash
Whip-like arc of atomic energy dealing cone damage. Enemies hit suffer "Molecular Rupture" — reduced defense and bonus melee damage for 5 seconds.
Special (3) — Singularity Trap
Traps target in a miniature containment field for 2 seconds. Lydia gains double attack speed and 25% lifesteal against that target. On lock end, enemy explodes AoE if killed or below 20% HP.
Ultimate (4) — Nova-Drive
Full-body atomic overload for 8 seconds: melee attacks chain radiation to nearby enemies, Atomic Meter generates passively. At end, releases a point-blank micro-nova scaling based on Atomic Meter spent. 60s cooldown.
▸Trivia
- ▪Name origin: "Lydia" is a portmanteau of "Emily" and "Diana," two OCs from the cancelled project Void:Riven; she was previously called Elysia. Also references Lydia Carlton (Earl and Fairy), Lidia Sobieska (Tekken) and the deuteragonist (Skyrim). Surname "Lau" from Lucy Liu and Liu Yifei (actresses). The name also references the Lydian musical mode — fitting for a former idol.
- ▪Design history: Her codename "Nova" preceded the character — the name came first, the atomic theme followed.
- ▪Callsign reference: Renata Velasco's surname references Kaya Velasco, the Protoframe for Nova in Warframe — linking the two characters thematically.
- ▪Musical tie: Her yeule association reflects ethereal, damaged beauty — perfect for a pop star reconstructed by maborite.
- ▪Handle: @kinova.wav — a portmanteau of "Kinova" (Kizuna's nickname for her) and audio file format, referencing her idol past.
- ▪The Lydian scale is the brightest mode in Western music — major with a raised fourth. Lydia's fighting style mirrors this: sharp, elevated, slightly off-center.
▸Goals
- ▪Prove she is more than her past — Lydia's identity was defined by her idol career and the tragedy that ended it. She fights to build something that can't be taken by applause or maborite.
- ▪Control the atomic energy within her — every fight is also a fight against herself. One slip could repeat the disaster that killed her fans.
- ▪Protect Lumicon — she may not admit it, but the team has become the audience she always needed — people who see her, not the performance.
- ▪Confront the conglomerates — Maboroshi Tech's experiments created the conditions for her catastrophe. Lydia wants answers, and she wants accountability.
