"You think you want something, but what you really want is to want it. I give people what they want, but more importantly, I give them the wanting. And that's the part they can't live without."

Backstory

Vera Prokofiev is the Director of Eos Broadcasting — the conglomerate that controls all media, entertainment, and public desire in nu-Eden. She doesn't think she's exploiting desire. She thinks she's liberating people from their own limitations. Or drugging them into compliance — depending on the quarter.

Eos Broadcasting weaponises parasocial relationships, manufactures cultural obsession, and turns attention into currency. Season 2's arc centres on a person — the human plot device that exposes the attention economy for what it truly is.

Personality

Vera understands desire better than anyone in nu-Eden, which is precisely why she's the most dangerous person in any room she enters.

She doesn't create desire — that would be too crude. She identifies, amplifies, and redirects desires that already exist. Every broadcast, every parasocial platform, every cultural event produced by Eos is a mirror angled to reflect what the audience wants to see, refracted just enough to make them want more. The wanting is the product. The content is just packaging.

Her Ice/Psychic typing is the perfect metaphor: ice that freezes emotional states in place (so they can be catalogued, predicted, monetized) combined with psychic influence that makes people believe the frozen state was their own choice. Vera Prokofiev doesn't control minds. She controls the menu of options minds choose from.

She is genuinely brilliant. This makes her worse. A stupid person manufacturing desire would create obvious, resistible propaganda. Vera Prokofiev creates culture — art, entertainment, relationships that feel real because they are real, just... curated. Optimized. The line between authentic and manufactured disappears, and Vera Prokofiev considers that line's disappearance to be her greatest achievement.

Appearance

Vera is inspired by Lady Dimitrescu (Resident Evil Village). Her design is high-fashion corporate authority — the visual language of media and desire rendered as couture.

  • Hair: Platinum blonde, always immaculate, always camera-ready — even in private. The performance never stops.
  • Eyes: Pale blue, almost ice-colored, with a focus that makes people feel seen in ways that are simultaneously flattering and invasive
  • Build: Tall, elegant, commanding — Vera occupies space like a broadcast signal. She doesn't enter rooms; she fills them.
  • Outfit: High-fashion corporate couture — white, silver, and ice-blue. The outfit shifts subtly between meetings, suggesting she changes for every audience. Eos branding is embedded in the jewelry: earrings that double as microphones, rings that pulse with broadcast frequencies.
  • Color Palette: Ice white, platinum silver, pale blue — cold beauty
  • Distinguishing feature: The voice. Vera's speaking voice is precisely calibrated — warm enough to trust, cool enough to respect, modulated enough that you don't notice it's modulated until you're already persuaded.

Tristan FourierOpposing protagonistSeason 2's luxuria arc pits Retronyx against Eos Broadcasting. Tristan's authenticity vs. Vera Prokofiev's manufactured desire.
Otis GoldmanBoard colleagueMaboroshi Technologies provides the technology, Eos Broadcasting broadcasts the desire for it. Their synergy makes both conglomerates more dangerous together.
Ryutaro ShinodaBoard PresidentVera Prokofiev can read Ryutaro Shinoda's public performances better than anyone. She hasn't told anyone whether the crying is real. This information is leverage.
Priscilla NommikRival (Amaranth)Both manufacture narrative. Vera Prokofiev does it through media; Priscilla Nommik does it through terror. They despise each other with the intensity of competitors in the same industry.

Leadership & Eos Broadcasting

Vera's Ice/Psychic typing is the perfect mirror of Eos's function: she freezes desires in place and then persuades people those frozen states are authentic. Where other directors leverage resources (Otis), records (Qinyi), or enforcement (Belinda), Vera leverages psychology itself. Her Lust doesn't manifest as carnal desire—it manifests as an obsessive, intricate understanding of what makes people feel, want, and believe. She doesn't suppress desires; she engineers them with surgical precision.

As operator of Reflexio under Qroma Alliance's sponsorship, Vera Prokofiev designs the overlay content that shapes collective consciousness. She depends on Maboroshi Technologies for hardware and Qroma Alliance for financial control, but she controls the meaning-making layer—the narrative that makes the surveillance, resource extraction, and biological integration feel desirable. This positions her as the conglomerate that manufactures consent. Her role is understanding that Vera Prokofiev is neither hero nor villain in the story; she's the architect of the story itself.

Trivia

  • Name origin: "Vera" from one of the Caramella Girls — also means "truth" in Latin/Russian, ironic for someone whose career is built on manufacturing desire that feels true. Surname "Prokopenko" from Stan Prokopenko (Proko), the figure-drawing instructor, before being changed to "Prokofiev" (after the composer Sergei Prokofiev).
  • The person: Season 2's plot device is a person, not an object. Vera's arc forces the player to confront what happens when desire becomes attached to a human being rather than a product.

Goals

  1. Control what people want — not what they have. Desire is upstream of every other form of power. Vera sits at the source.
  2. Prove that manufactured desire is indistinguishable from real desire — and that the distinction doesn't matter. If you feel it, it's real. If it's real, it's monetizable.
  3. Outlast the other Directors — media survives everything. Wars end, technology evolves, markets crash. But people always want to watch something. Eos is forever.
