//Takumi Satoru
Takumi Satoru
"Transformation is not optional. It's inevitable."
▸Backstory
Takumi Satoru is an independent veteran operative and the father of Hitomi Satoru. Codename Imago, Takumi is a Light/Arcane-type Sentinel — a cybernetics specialist whose mastery of luminous and arcane energies makes him an advanced early-warning and defensive platform.
Formerly an Edenian scholar studying the intersection of light phenomena and arcane theory, Takumi left academia when war darkened the skies. Now he serves as nERF's espionage and covert operations specialist — a scholar who fights to illuminate futures for his daughter and the fallen, wielding light and arcane truth as both weapons and instruments of revelation.
▸Personality
Takumi's codename — Imago, the final stage of an insect's metamorphosis — is his thesis statement. Transformation is not optional. It's inevitable. Everything is in the process of becoming something else, and the only choice is whether the final form is intentional or accidental. Takumi chose deliberately.
His Light/Arcane typing is the rarest combination in the Old Guard: illumination and mystery, clarity and the unknowable. Light reveals; Arcane conceals within complexity. Takumi operates in the paradox — revealing threats through luminous awareness while deploying arcane countermeasures that the enemy can't decode because the underlying principles are too esoteric to reverse-engineer.
As a Sentinel, Takumi's function is detection and early defense. His Light typing grants him vision across spectra that conventional sensors miss. His Arcane secondary wraps those detections in layers of theoretical complexity that make his intelligence reports simultaneously invaluable and nearly incomprehensible. Reading a Takumi field report requires a glossary.
His academic origins survive in everything he does. Takumi approaches warfare as a research problem: every engagement produces data, every manoeuvre tests a hypothesis, every outcome either confirms or disproves a theoretical model. This makes him exceptionally effective as an espionage specialist — he doesn't just gather intelligence, he contextualises it within frameworks that predict future events.
Hitomi inherited her father's analytical precision but channelled it through a more instinctive lens. Where Takumi theorises, Hitomi perceives. Where Takumi writes reports, Hitomi acts on gut readings that turn out to be correct. The father's scholarship became the daughter's intuition — transformation, as promised.
▸Appearance
- ▪Hair: Black, streaked with silver-white — the light bleeding through. Whether this is natural greying or a manifestation of Light typing is a question Takumi deflects with academic precision.
- ▪Eyes: Golden-amber, luminous — Takumi's eyes are the most visible expression of his typing. In low light, they glow with a warm, steady radiance that makes him impossible to miss and impossible to look away from.
- ▪Build: Lean, scholarly — Takumi's physicality is that of a man who spent formative years in libraries and laboratories before transitioning to fieldwork. Precise rather than powerful.
- ▪Outfit: Modified scholar's coat over tactical gear — the academic robes adapted for combat operations. Arcane notation embroidered along the hems that may be decorative or may be functional — Takumi won't clarify. Genesce insignia.
- ▪Color Palette: Gold, white, deep arcane purple — illumination and mystery
- ▪Distinguishing feature: The glow. Takumi emits a subtle luminescence at all times — not blinding, not even particularly bright, but persistent. He lights a room by being in it.
▸Relationships
| Character | Relation | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Hitomi Satoru | Daughter | Genesce operative. Takumi's scholarship became Hitomi's instinct. The father's theoretical precision transformed into the daughter's perceptive accuracy. The metamorphosis he named himself for, completed in the next generation. |
| Rayner Garritsen | Genesce colleague | Light/Arcane and Cosmic/Dark — the full spectrum. Takumi illuminates what can be studied; Rayner maps what exists beyond study. Together they give Genesce complete awareness from the visible to the impossible. |
| Uzuki Kazetani | Genesce colleague | The scholar and the dancer. Both operate through grace rather than force. Both came to combat from artistic vocations. Their partnership is Genesce's aesthetic — war as something that can be conducted with elegance. |
| Imran Habchi | Old Guard peer | Both Major/Zeta-classified, both technology specialists. Imran builds physical weapons; Takumi builds theoretical frameworks. Both are essential infrastructure disguised as individual operatives. |
▸Abilities
Passive — Luminous Vigil
Takumi emits a soft glow that reveals hidden enemies and provides vision in dark areas. He also gains bonus defense when protecting allies.
Tactical (1) — Prism Beam
Fires a beam of refracted light that damages enemies and can bounce between multiple targets, revealing their positions.
Core (2) — Arcane Ward
Creates a protective barrier of light that absorbs damage and reflects a portion back at attackers. The barrier also reveals enemies attempting to approach.
Special (3) — Metamorphosis Burst
Takumi undergoes a brief transformation, gaining enhanced speed and damage while leaving behind light trails that damage enemies who cross them.
Ultimate (4) — Radiant Ascension
Takumi ascends into a being of pure light and arcane energy. He gains flight, massive damage output, and the ability to create blinding flashes that disorient enemies while healing and protecting allies.
▸Trivia
- ▪Name origin: Named after Takumi Miyano (The World Ends with You). The TWEWY connection runs through multiple Old Guard members, tying the parent generation to the same cultural reference pool as the series' thematic roots.
- ▪Codename — Imago: The final stage of insect metamorphosis — when the organism reaches its fully developed adult form. Takumi chose this name deliberately: he considers himself the completed version of what the scholar began. Whether the final form is beautiful or monstrous depends on who's observing.
- ▪Former identity: Earlier versions list Takumi as "Seiji Satoru" with the codename "Solstice" — the moment when light reaches its maximum or minimum. The evolution from Solstice to Imago tracks a shift from a temporal metaphor to a biological one.
▸Goals
- ▪Complete the metamorphosis — Takumi's Imago codename implies a process with an endpoint. He is still transforming, still becoming. The final form hasn't been reached. The question is whether the endpoint is transcendence or dissolution.
- ▪Ensure Hitomi's transformation is gentler — Takumi's metamorphosis was forced by war. He wants Hitomi's evolution to be guided by choice rather than crisis.
- ▪Document everything — the scholar never stopped. Takumi records the war's events in theoretical frameworks that future generations will use to understand what happened and prevent its repetition. The reports are dense. The reports are essential.
