"Control is not cruelty. It is clarity."

Backstory

Pierre Fourier is an independent veteran operative and the father of Tristan Fourier. Codename Hyperion, Pierre is a Dark/Ghost-type Controller — a shadow operative whose mastery over battlefield conditions borders on the absolute.

Formerly a Rift researcher exposed to spectral fallout, Pierre became an untethered anomaly — a man who phases between material and immaterial existence, whose relationship with physical reality is more of a suggestion than a law. He still serves nERF but operates outside the formal command structure, tethered to the resistance by love for his son rather than institutional loyalty.

Personality

Pierre's quote distills everything: "Control is not cruelty. It is clarity." He believes that imposing order on chaos is fundamentally compassionate — that the alternative to precise, measured control is the chaotic suffering of unmanaged conflict. This philosophy is either wise or terrifying depending on whether Pierre is on your side.

His Dark/Ghost typing is the most paradoxical in the Old Guard. His codename — Hyperion, the Titan of light — is an ironic choice for a man who operates exclusively in darkness and intangibility. Pierre doesn't just prefer shadows; he is shadow, phasing through physical barriers and existing in spectral states that make him impossible to track by conventional means.

As a Controller, Pierre doesn't engage enemies directly. He reshapes the battlefield itself: manipulating darkness, creating zones of absolute blackout, deploying phantom duplicates that force enemies to waste resources on targets that don't exist. His combat philosophy is chess played with the opponent unable to see the board.

His independence from nERF's command structure is both a strength and a symptom. The spectral fallout changed Pierre in ways that make institutional obedience difficult — not because he's rebellious, but because the chain of command assumes a stable relationship with physical reality that Pierre no longer possesses. He follows orders when they make sense. He ignores them when they don't. That he's right more often than not is the only reason this arrangement persists.

Pierre's relationship with Tristan is anchored by the same paradox: a father who exists partway outside reality, trying to raise a son who needs a parent fully present. Tristan inherited his father's Dark typing but channeled it into direct engagement rather than spectral abstraction — the son compensating for the father's intangibility with physical commitment.

Appearance

Ulrich's design is inspired by Chamber (Valorant), because he's French, and because Chamber's design is the perfect blend of shadow and sophistication that captures Pierre's essence. The long coat, the sleek tactical gear, the subtle nods to noir aesthetics — all of it is meant

  • Hair: Dark grey, swept back — Pierre's hair has a spectral quality, occasionally appearing slightly transparent in certain lighting conditions. This may be a Ghost typing side effect.
  • Eyes: Deep violet, luminous — the spectral fallout left permanent markers. Pierre's eyes glow faintly in complete darkness.
  • Build: Tall, lean, angular — Pierre's physicality is attenuated by his Ghost typing. He looks like a man who is slightly less there than everyone around him. This impression is accurate.
  • Outfit: Long dark coat over minimal tactical gear — Pierre dresses for concealment rather than protection, because physical protection is irrelevant when you can phase through attacks. Retronyx insignia barely visible.
  • Color Palette: Deep charcoal, midnight blue, spectral violet — Depeche Mode rendered as shadow
  • Distinguishing feature: The phasing. Pierre occasionally becomes partially transparent without meaning to — a tic, like someone else might tap their fingers. His son pretends not to notice.

Relationships

CharacterRelationNotes
Tristan FourierSonRetronyx operative. Pierre's intangibility created a son who commits physically to everything — as if Tristan is compensating for his father's spectral absences by being aggressively, undeniably present.
Vera ProkofievBoard adversaryTristan's Season 3 opponent. Pierre watches his son face the Director of Lust and recognises the emotional manipulation as a weaponised version of the control Pierre himself values. The parallel disturbs him.
Gianluca Moretti-VelascoRetronyx colleagueSound/Steel and Dark/Ghost — the destructive and the invisible. Gianluca demolishes structures; Pierre makes the demolisher impossible to find. Their partnership is Retronyx's veteran edge: destruction you can't trace.
Cordelia BalanOld Guard peerTwo Ghost-typed Controllers. Cordelia uses Sound to alter perception; Pierre uses Dark to eliminate it. Both are master manipulators of battlefield awareness, approaching the same goal from opposite directions.

Abilities

Passive — Shadow Play

Pierre can phase through walls and becomes briefly intangible when taking damage, allowing him to avoid lethal blows and reposition strategically.

Tactical (1) — Phantom Grasp

Reaches out with spectral hands that grab and pull enemies toward Pierre, dealing damage and setting them up for follow-up attacks.

Core (2) — Eclipse Field

Creates a zone of darkness that reduces enemy vision and accuracy while boosting Pierre's damage and movement speed within it.

Special (3) — Soul Echo

Creates a ghostly duplicate of Pierre that mimics his movements and attacks. The echo deals reduced damage but can distract enemies and create tactical opportunities.

Ultimate (4) — Abyssal Dominion

Summons a massive shadow realm that engulfs the battlefield. Enemies are slowed and take damage over time, while Pierre gains the ability to teleport between shadows and phase through all obstacles.

Trivia

  • Codename — Hyperion: The Titan of observation and light in Greek mythology. Pierre operates exclusively in darkness. The irony is structural: the man named for the heavenly light-bearer works from the deepest shadow. Whether this was Pierre's choice or the universe's joke is unclear.
  • Spectral fallout: Pierre's partial intangibility is not an ability — it's a condition. The Rift exposure that gave him Ghost typing also made his relationship with physical reality permanently unstable. He phases involuntarily. He cannot fully control when he becomes transparent. This is a disability that doubles as a power.

Goals

  1. Stay tethered — Pierre's Ghost typing pulls him toward intangibility. The thing that keeps him material is Tristan. Without his son, Pierre suspects he would phase permanently and not return.
  2. Maintain operational independence — Pierre operates outside nERF's command structure because he has to. The alternative is forcing himself into an institutional framework that his spectral condition rejects. Freedom isn't a luxury — it's a survival mechanism.
  3. Ensure Tristan doesn't inherit the fallout — Pierre's Dark/Ghost typing came from external damage. Tristan's Dark typing is natural. The difference matters. Pierre ensures his son's darkness has a foundation his own never did.
