"I didn't fight so my son could inherit the same war."

Backstory

A veteran of the generation that fought before C.I.D.E formalized its grip on nu-Eden. Once a warlord commanding urban assault mechs, Damon was betrayed and left to die by the Directorate. He survived and retreated into fatherhood, training his son Conrad McGuire-Sun in warfare and mercy. Now he serves as Spektra's commander — the Old Guard liaison who bridges the veteran resistance and the new generation of operatives.

His relationship with Conrad defines much of the younger generation's emotional landscape. The weight of a father who fought and failed to end the conflict reverberates through every mission Conrad undertakes.

Personality

Damon is the war that came before. Everything the younger operatives are fighting — he already fought it, lost it, survived it, and is watching them fight it again. This is the specific kind of anguish that turns veterans into either mentors or ghosts. Damon chose mentor, but the ghost follows him.

He commands Spektra from a position of earned authority. Not rank — he has that too (Brigadier General, Delta classification) — but the authority that comes from having already paid the price everyone else is still accruing. When Damon gives an order, the compliance isn't obedience. It's trust in someone who's already been where you're going.

He is a Maborite user. The implications of this are worse than anyone suspects. Damon can perceive the basin of attraction around Conrad's death — not the timestamp, never the exact day, but the narrowing probability cloud. The sign, not the event. He knows intervention doesn't remove the crash; it only moves it. So he watches. He calculates. He says nothing. His silence is worse than cruelty because it's informed.

He genuinely believes that what comes after the crash matters more than preventing it. Or that Conrad must cross the boundary willingly. Either interpretation is devastating.

As Director of OrdoPrimus (Act VI — Superbia/Pride), he controls the governance and law apparatus. He genuinely believes tyranny is mercy — that structure prevents the chaos he survived. This makes him the most dangerous kind of antagonist: the one who's right about the problem and catastrophically wrong about the solution.

With Spektra, he fills the commander role that lets the younger operatives function. Kizuna calibrates, Nicole judges, Fairuz fractures, Jaime heals — and Damon ensures the machine that contains them all keeps running. He doesn't fight on the frontline anymore. He fights the war of keeping the frontline possible.

Appearance

Inspired by Big Boss (Metal Gear) and the military character work of Dan Luvisi, Damon's design is built around scarred command presence rather than ornament. Damon's design is veteran commander — scarred authority, military precision, and the deliberate presence of someone who has survived more than he should have.

  • Hair: Close-cropped, silver-streaked black — the gray isn't age, it's mileage
  • Eyes: Dark, heavy-lidded, carrying the focus of a man who's seen every tactical situation before. They don't scan rooms. They assess them.
  • Build: Broad-shouldered and solid, a fighter's frame maintained through discipline rather than youth. The steel reinforcements add density — he's heavier than he looks, harder to move, harder to stop
  • Outfit: Modified command-grade tactical armor in matte gunmetal, stripped of decoration. No insignia except the Delta Brigadier General marking on the left shoulder. Reinforced knuckles. Steel-plated forearm guards. A half-cape in deep charcoal that reads as both military and ceremonial.
  • Color Palette: Gunmetal gray, matte black, steel silver — institutional, unyielding
  • Distinguishing feature: The scars. Not hidden, not displayed — just present. His hands show the most: steel-reinforced knuckles over burn scarring from the Directorate betrayal. He doesn't talk about them. Nobody asks.
  • Art direction: Dan Luvisi's hyper-detailed military character style — cinematic realism meets grounded brutality.

Relationships

CharacterRelationNotes
Conrad McGuire-SunSonThe defining relationship. Damon trained Conrad in warfare and mercy. He can sense Conrad's death approaching through Maborite pattern recognition. He says nothing. This silence is the cruelest love in nu-Eden.
Kizuna MoriuchiSubordinate / ProtégéThe Kizuna/Damon pairing mirrors the Conrad/Lyndsey dynamic — mentor and mentee, old war and new war. Damon trusts Kizuna's calibration more than his own instincts.
Jaime ChoiCo-strategistThe Gorillaz reference duo — Damon Albarn and Jamie Hewlett. In-universe, they're Spektra's dual command structure: Damon commands, Jaime sustains.
Nicole Rose LangleyOperativeNicole judges. Damon has been judged before — by people with more power and less moral authority. He respects Nicole because she judges fairly.
Fairuz bin OmarOperativeFairuz fractures what Damon once built. The Old Guard watching the new generation tear down infrastructure is either tragedy or progress. Damon chooses progress.

Abilities

Passive — Unyielding Resolve

Damon's combat experience grants him bonus damage resistance when below 50% health. Nearby allies also gain minor damage reduction, representing his protective veteran presence.

Tactical (1) — Iron Fist Barrage

Unleashes a rapid series of steel-reinforced punches that knock back enemies and deal bonus damage to armored targets. Each hit builds momentum for increased knockback distance.

Core (2) — Guardian's Stand

Creates a protective steel barrier around Damon and nearby allies. The barrier absorbs damage and reflects a portion back at attackers, but shatters if overloaded.

Special (3) — War-Hardened Counter

When struck by an enemy ability, Damon has a chance to immediately counter with a powerful steel slam that stuns the attacker and nearby enemies in a small radius.

Ultimate (4) — Legacy of the Frontline

Damon channels the collective experience of countless battles, gaining massive damage resistance and attack power. Nearby allies receive the same bonuses, turning the battlefield into an unbreakable veteran stronghold.

Trivia

  • Name origin: Named after Damon Albarn — lead vocalist of Blur, co-creator of Gorillaz. The Gorillaz connection pairs Damon with Jaime (Jamie Hewlett, Gorillaz co-creator) as a deliberate reference duo on the same team.
  • Codename: Yonder — "the far distance," "over there." A codename that places Damon outside the immediate conflict — watching from beyond, seeing what others can't.
  • Surname evolution: McGuire-Sun / McGuire-Sun across drafts. Sometimes drops the McGuire to just be Damon Sun. The final version keeps both to reflect the dual heritage and the weight of family legacy.
  • Type evolution: Virtual/Electric → Cosmic/Electric → Steel/Fighting across development. The final typing — grounded, physical, unyielding — is the most accurate to Damon's role as the immovable veteran.
  • Maborite perception: Can see the probability cloud around Conrad's death — not the date, but the convergence pattern. The "basin of attraction, the narrowing probability cloud, the sign, not the timestamp."
  • Act VI role: Director of OrdoPrimus (Superbia/Pride) — controls governance and law. The sixth seal breaks when people reject his martial law. He genuinely believes tyranny is mercy.
  • Pseudo-antagonist: Functions as the main antagonist of Act I (Lumicon's arc) before the narrative reveals his motivations.
  • Art reference: Dan Luvisi (@danluvisi) — hyper-detailed military character art with cinematic realism.

Goals

  1. Ensure Conrad survives what Damon can see coming — without telling him. The Maborite sight shows the crash, not the timestamp. Damon's goal is to make the crash survivable, not preventable.
  2. Command Spektra effectively — not from the front, not from above. From beside. The team needs a commander who has already been everywhere they're going.
  3. Break the cycle — he didn't fight so his son could inherit the same war. If the war continues, Damon has failed. The goal is obsolescence: to make himself unnecessary.
  4. Answer for OrdoPrimus — Act VI will require Damon to defend or dismantle everything he built when he believed tyranny was mercy. The answer he gives determines whether the sixth seal breaks cleanly.
