Tsunagaya is the southern ward of nu-Eden and the beating heart of ordinary life. The name (繋谷, "connecting valley") reflects its role as the city's densest residential and commercial zone — a vertical labyrinth of cramped housing blocks, neon-lit markets, and endless foot traffic. This is where Team Lumicon calls home.

Geography

Tsunagaya sits primarily in the Stacks and upper Heap, with no Cloud-level presence. The ward is a chaotic tangle of residential megablocks, commercial strips, and transit nodes. Streets are narrow by design — maximising building density at the cost of personal space. The ward's vertical structure means sunlight rarely reaches the lower levels.

Key Features

  • Tsunagaya Junction Station — The massive underground transit hub where multiple The Grid lines intersect. The commercial and cultural heart of the ward: Familiar Marts, Torikizoku yAkirari stands, MDCT mega-mall, and black markets in hidden alcoves.
  • The Stairwell Districts — Gravity-defying residential zones where apartments are stacked vertically with external staircases. Cheap, cramped, and perpetually noisy.
  • Neon Alley — A famous strip of independent shops, unlicensed food stalls, and Reflexio-free zones (maintained by signal jammers). One of the few places in nu-Eden where corporate advertising doesn't reach.
  • Conrad's Apartment — A modest unit in Block 7C, Stairwell District. The unofficial meeting point for Team Lumicon between missions.

Culture

Tsunagaya's culture is defined by resilience and improvisation. Residents are working-class citizens who've learned to navigate the merit system without being consumed by it. The ward has a strong sense of community — neighbours watch out for each other, and local businesses operate on informal trust networks that bypass Credisys when possible.

The nERF has deep roots here. Tsunagaya's density and noise provide natural cover for resistance activities, and the population is broadly sympathetic — not ideological, but practical. When corporate enforcers come knocking, people develop sudden amnesia.
