Sound manipulates rhythm and space: attacks that scale with beats, sonic pushes, and audio-driven crowd-control.

Mechanics

  • Resonant Frequency: Sound units generate a "Resonance" meter that fills during combat. At 100%, the next ability has 50% increased area of effect.
  • Acoustic Push: Sound Vandals can use sonic blasts to displace enemies. These hits interrupt "Channeling" abilities and force a short dash cooldown.
  • Disorientation: High-intensity Sound waves apply "Disoriented," causing the target's screen to blur and reducing their turn speed.

Design Cues

  • VFX: Concentric ring ripples, "subwoofer" vibration effects on the environment, and visualisers that pulse with the character's heart rate.
  • SFX: Bass drops, high-frequency "ringing" for stuns, and rhythmic percussion that syncs with successful ability hits (Hi-Fi Rush + TWEWY inspirations).

Typical Abilities (design template)

  • Passive — Echo Location: using an ability briefly reveals nearby enemies through walls via sonic pings.
  • Tactical (1) — Sonic Blast: short-range cone that deals damage and knocks back enemies.
  • Core (2) — Harmonic Pulse: emit a pulse on a timer; hits on-beat deal 25% extra damage.
  • Special (3) — Dampening Field: create an area where all enemy sound (and some abilities) is muffled, reducing their ability to coordinate.
  • Ultimate (4) — Grand Finale: a massive sonic boom that disorients and knocks down all enemies in a wide radius.

Synergies & Counters

  • Synergies: Chaos (variable rhythms), Psychic (sensory overload), Water (conductive sound waves).
  • Counters: Wind (disperses sound waves), Tech (noise-cancelling fields), Rock (absorbs vibrations).

  • Palette: concentric indigo/gold ripples, "subwoofer" vibration effects on the environment, and visualisers that pulse with the character's rhythm.
